So, what is Foundation Training?
Foundation Training helps improve strength and mobility by decompressing the spine and rebalancing the muscular system, applying principles that benefit any activity. I healed my chronic pain through this practice and now lead active, pain-free life, teaching workshops and retreats in the UK and Europe.
Learn more about Foundation Training
Foundation Training is a movement practice, distinct from yoga and Pilates, designed to counteract the harmful effects of our modern, sedentary lifestyles. Spending much time sitting, hunched over screens, steering wheels, and phones, has weakened our bodies and makes us more vulnerable to unnecessary injury and pain.
Chronic pain in areas like the back, knees, shoulders, hips, and feet has become a widespread issue in modern society, and conventional treatments often fail to address the root causes. Our bodies are meant to last well into old age without breaking down, but this often isn’t the case—largely due to how we treat them.
Foundation Training teaches individuals how to use their bodies properly, maintain good posture, and move with correct mechanics. By doing this, it rebalances the muscular system and realigns the skeleton, helping to build strength and stay pain-free throughout life. The gains in muscular strength, flexibility, and power from this program are impressive, enhancing performance in activities such as running, cycling, golf, rugby, and football.
My aim as a Foundation Training Instructor is to equip you with the tools to take control of your pain and help you feel confident in your body’s ability to handle the demands of modern life.
“Foundation training with Mike has helped me have increased awareness of how my body moves. I am enjoying learning something that feels like it will help develop a more solid functional fitness grounding and read across to help with sustainable movement technique in a number of activities.”

Depending on your job, I’ll also conduct a workplace assessment to help you integrate Foundation Training principles. This ensures you get the most out of what you do and how you do it, so you’re not coming home feeling broken and in pain.

ADHD / ADD & Dyslexic focused help and mentorship
-
As someone on the neurodivergent spectrum with ADD and dyslexia, I have spent years looking into how it affects my life both positively and negatively and have developed coping techniques and processes to help me manage myself in a world that was built for neurotypical humans. I am super passionate about this as I know how much pain and suffering can come from not fitting into the world. I do not have all the answers, but I developed an awareness through coaching and counselling over the past 5 years that allows me to help others. For me, being overwhelmed leads to anxiety, which can cause me to burn out. If this sounds familiar to you, get in touch for a free 30-minute chat with no strings attached. There’s no need to suffer alone you’re a talented human with an amazing mind that, given the right tools and support, can learn to flourish. It’s good to talk.
Retreats
-
I assisted the talented Mora Mogovern from FT Instructor UK throughout the year with her retreats and workshops. So far, we have been to the French Alps, the Spanish Pyrenees, and the Cornish coastlines. These retreats are a fantastic way to slow down and tune in to your body. The week is an immersive deep dive into the body’s anatomy, which, in turn, gives you a deeper knowledge of how Foundation training works. We are always evolving the retreats looking for new locations, and adding in meditation courses and sound bath sessions, and it doesn’t stop there. We have massage available all week and work with a fantastic chef, so we are well-fed and watered all week. During the weeks, there is plenty of time for walks in the mountains, sauna sessions, river dips, and even just sitting in the sun and reading a book.
If you are interested, drop me a message to get on the waiting list for the next retreats coming up.
I started as a client with Mora, and she helped me out of my chronic pain. She inspired and then mentored me to get my qualifications. I feel fortunate to have learnt under such a talented person. If something is out of my knowledge base, I have the ability to tap into her knowledge to help you.
